Asset Performance Management (APM) is a collection of work processes that enable process manufacturers to optimize the balance of asset-based risk, cost, and availability. One of the work processes within APM is Failure Elimination, which can be thought of as “find it, fix it.”
The work process strategy is to identify bad actor assets (chronic, recurring performance problems) and perform root cause analyses to determine the physical, human, and latent roots. From these root causes, recommendations are put forth to reform the bad actors. After the recommendations are implemented, the asset's performance needs to be tracked to determine the effectiveness of the root cause investigation.
The information contained within the work orders and work requests executed against the assets in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) supports the bad actor identification step in the process. ISO14224 describes a set of best practices for capturing this data involving a well-ordered taxonomy for the assets and structured data capture during work identification and work completion.
